Do any of these bring back flashbacks to your childhood?

This sort of favoritism that introduces itself so early in life may bring back bitter memories.

What Is Favoritism?

Favoritism is “to have a favorable bias toward one person or group over others with equal claims.

The barrier of favoritism may be old, strong, high, wide and thick, but it is not impenetrable.

I wholeheartedly believe that in Eliminating favoritism, through the power of God’s Word, our lives, our churches, our nation, and our world will be transformed.

Slather On the Oil (v. 1)

First, Oil Lubricates.

Second, Oil Heals.

Third, Oil Repels Water.

When you invite God’s spirit to dwell in your heart, what results is a lot like the oily principles we talked about a few minutes ago.

First, not only will you be lubricated and alive, but you will also bring life to those around you by sharing the joy and hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Second, like the healing oil placed on the shepherd’s lambs, you will help heal hearts of those who have been snubbed, rejected and cast aside.

Third, you will repel favoritism, for it is impossible for it to co-exist with you!

Keep an Eye on Favoritism’s Cousin!

A close cousin to favoritism is prejudice.

No one is born with prejudice feelings: they are developed and nurtured within us by our experiences and upbringing.

Take a Cue from Finn (v. 2-4)

On June 29th we added a new member to our family. He is an Australian Shepherd Mix and his name is Finn.

Finn has this innate ability to make you feel like you are the most important person in the world. You could be having the worst day every, but if you were to come into our house this little guy makes you feel like a king or queen.

When you see someone, who is different from you, be deliberate in delighting in the variety of God’s creation.

Put on Your God Goggles (v. 5-6)

"When we see people with [God’] eyes, we will look at a child with Down syndrome and recognize the precious spirit within the child…a child made in God’s image.

When we look at someone who is scarred by some sort of tragedy, we will see the beautiful person on the inside.

When we see someone from a different race, we will see a potential brother or sister in Christ…someone who we may spend eternity with in heaven."

Though we look upon the poor with disdain and have dishonored them, James says that our heavenly Father looks upon them with love and compassion and has actually chosen them to have an abundance of faith and an inheritance in His kingdom.

Regard the Royal Law (v. 8-12)

To love God and to love others is the consummation of every one of the laws in the Old Testament.

Where love begins, favoritism and prejudice end.
